It’s No Use Going Back to Yesterday: Because I Was a Different Person Then
~Alice/Alice In Wonderland
The title quote is from Alice in Wonderland. This classic children’s book teaches us the importance of resisting the constraints and stereotypes of the outside world so that we can become our truest selves. Although the book was written in the late 1800’s, its themes are relevant for us grown-ups living in this upside-down, terrifying MAGA wonderland. We are striving to become the best version of ourselves as a nation that is truly “indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
The Queen advises a distraught Alice to practice believing in impossible things. She goes on to say that because she was so well practiced she could believe in “as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” For those of you who have not yet voted, we invite you to take the Queen’s challenge and imagine six seemingly impossible things that you can make possible with your vote.
Let’s elect Jennifer McCormick and Terry Goodin so that we don’t allow a MAGA loyalist and dangerous religious fundamentalist to be our next Governor and Lt. Governor.
Let’s elect Valerie McCray as our next senator and send Jim Banks and his Project 2025 co-conspirators a message about who we are in Indiana.
Let’s elect Destiny Wells as our Attorney General and send Todd Rokita’s corrupt policies and extremism to the dustbin of history.
Let’s elect at least a dozen or more pro-democracy, pro-decency new generation house and senate district candidates to our Statehouse and absolutely end the super-majority stranglehold that current MAGA legislators have on our state.
Let’s end the 20 years one-party rule that keeps Indiana as one of the highest ranking states for maternal mortality, child poverty rates for Black children, gun deaths, attempted suicide by high school children who identity as gay, lesbian or bi-sexual and one of the worst states for clean air and water and ranking 50th for voter turnout.
Let’s grow this pro-democracy, anti-extremism movement in Indiana so we can make more impossible things possible in 2025 and beyond!
We are in the last two days of this historic election. There is an excitement in the air for imagining ‘impossible things’ and making them come true. Hoosiers are ready to write a new chapter in our collective story.
We are not going back, because we are a different people now.
See you on the other side of election day!
Believing in impossible things,
Debbie, Rachel, Kathy, Dona & Barbara
